Robert “Chip” Mues is an AV Preeminent® rated Dayton family and divorce attorney with over 40 years of experience in domestic relations and family law. Education & Legal Career
Mr. Mues graduated from Wittenberg University in 1975 and the University of Dayton School of Law in 1978. Since law school, he has practiced law in Dayton, focusing on Domestic Relations litigation. In January 1992, he became a partner at Holzfaster, Cecil, McKnight & Mues.
In 2002, Mr. Mues earned the prestigious AV Preeminent® rating, the highest designation available to individual lawyers.
Professional & Community Involvement
Mr. Mues has actively contributed to child welfare and family law initiatives throughout his career:
- Served on the Board of Directors of Montgomery County Children Services and For Love of Children, Inc.
- Served as an impartial hearing officer and state-level review officer for the Ohio Department of Education (1981–2024), handling disputes involving school districts and parents of children with disabilities.
- Former Treasurer of the Foundation Board of Dayton Children’s Hospital and former President of the Foundation Board of Hospice of Dayton.
- Member of numerous local, state, and national Bar Associations and professional organizations, regularly attending family law seminars statewide and nationally.
Notable Legal Achievements
In 1984, Mr. Mues successfully persuaded the Ohio Supreme Court to issue a landmark decision in Castle v. Castle, extending the legal obligation of non-custodial parents to pay child support for disabled children indefinitely beyond the child’s 18th birthday, until the child’s disability ends.
